I think I might end up with one of these since it supposedly doesn't have the unreliability of the S4.

I'll just leave these articles here....

http://jalopnik.com/here-s-why-the…

http://jalopnik.com/should-i-buy-a…

The second article is about a GT-R I know...but the same logic applies to a super cheap RS4 needing its timing chain replaced....

I don't really care honestly. If you love a car, repair cost doesn't matter.

True....but when one single repair cost costs 1/3 the value of the vehicle, and requires the entire engine to be removed...its just something to consider.

I love the RS4 and the S4 from the B6 and B7 generations. I almost bought a B6 S4 back in the day but now i currently drive a B8.5 S4. I know they are sweet cars and have a glorious V8 engine that sounds amazing...but any maintenance that requires the removal of the engine....seems a bit worrisome for a daily driver.

I love the Rs4 also, and I did come amazingly close to a B6 S4 before I bought my B5 A4. It's all maintenance, but I wouldn't hesitate to spend $4,000 doing something to a car I love. I'm pretty sure that the timing chain issue was fixed with the 4.2 in the Rs4 though?

That i don't know....Its the same motor as the S4 and came out about the same time...But perhaps. But if you are really considering it this is the cheapest RS4 I've seen...by a long shot.

There's one or two cheaper on EBay, but in the next few years it's on my go to list.

It's not the same motor.

The RS4 does not share the problems that the S4 has with its timing chain/guides/tensioners.

Granted it has a different issue (carbon buildup), but it is not afflicted with the B6 S4 timing chain problem.

Here is the list of maintenance issues for the B7 RS4:

- Carbon cleaning

-DRC recall, or replace it with an aftermarket suspension (typically Ohlins, KW V3 or Bilstein).

- Coilpacks

And that's it.
